Thank you to the close to 600 runners, their family and friends and all our wonderful volunteers for making the 2013 Pinery Race Weekend a great success. Thank you also to our generous sponsors and door prize contributors.
This was the first year we have held a trail run on the Saturday. The Teen Challenge group from London participated in the Trail Run, for some, training and running in their first ever race. The trail runners had a great time in spite of the rain.
Another first this year, at the road race on Sunday, was the inagural race of My Team Triumph, an athletic ride-along program for children, teens, adults and veterans with disabilities who would normally not be able to experience endurance events such as road races. Six 'captains' were pushed in wheelchairs by their 'angels' along the 5K course, accompanied by a contingent of volunteers and the cheers of spectators and runners alike.
Watch a video that My Team Triumph posted on YouTube of their inagural race at Pinery. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hm-XkmrUPXI
We raised over $10,000 this year, to be used for a variety of park projects. For example, we are very excited to be contributing toward the construction of an eco-passage ( a kind of tunnel that helps critters such as turtles, snakes etc travel more safely within the park.) We greatly appreciate your commitment and your support of our efforts in education, promotion, preservation and support of
Pinery Provincial Park.
A special thank you to our volunteers. Once again, thanks so much for giving your time and energy to the Friends. Your help and support contributed greatly to the Race Weekend being such a success. We hope you enjoyed it, and will consider helping out again next year!
