Pinery Race Weekend - Thank You
Angelina Backx, the oldest road race participant, with her son Frank, a member of the Friends of Pinery Park's Board of Directors.
Thank you to all the registered runners, their family and friends and all our wonderful volunteers for making the 2014 Pinery Road Race a great success in spite of the challenges we faced this year. Thank you also to our generous sponsors and door prize contributors.
The trail runners had a great time in spite of the rain and the last minute course change because high water levels eliminated the possiblity of running on the beach. Pictures from the trail run are in the slideshow below.
Returning again this year was My Team Triumph which is an athletic ride-along program for children, teens, adults and veterans with disabilities who would normally not be able to experience endurance events such as road races. Nine 'captains' were pushed in wheelchairs by their 'angels' along the 5K course, accompanied by a contingent of volunteers and the cheers of spectators and runners alike.
We met our goal of $10,000 this year, to be used for a variety of park projects. Last year we contributed toward the construction of an eco-passage ( a kind of tunnel that helps critters such as turtles, snakes etc travel more safely within the park.) We greatly appreciate your commitment and your support of our efforts in education, promotion, preservation and support of
Pinery Provincial Park.
A special thank you to our volunteers. Once again, thanks so much for giving your time and energy to the Friends. Your help and support contributed greatly to the Race Weekend being such a success. We hope you enjoyed it, and will consider helping out again next year!
