A Special Friend

Glen Loates, Canadian Wildlife Artist, was the Friends first member and Honorary Chairperson. In galleries and personal collections around the world, this Canadian is well known and honoured for his skill in representing wildlife. In 1988 Canada honoured him with the Royal Philatelic Award for Canada's first full colour stamp - the "Gray Jay". In 1982 the United States and President Reagan honoured Loates by accepting his painting, "The Bald Eagle", in the Oval Office. Right Honourable Pierre Elliot Trudeau, former Prime Minister of Canada, also had Loates' paintings in his personal collection, along with His Royal Highness Prince Philip of Edinburgh. Many gift items featuring his work can be purchased in the Friends nature gift shop, Savanna Shores.
