Summer Employment

Interested in finding a summer job with Ontario Parks at Pinery Provincial Park? Each season Ontario Parks hires students to help with park operations. More information about opportunities and how to apply can be found at the Ontario Parks website.

There are many interesting and challenging jobs available for young people. The majority of staff come from the local Grand Bend area, however should you come from further afield, please note that staff housing is not available within the park. Rental accommodations are available in the nearby communities of Grand Bend and Port Franks. Most of the summer staff range in ages from 17 to late 20s.

Gate Staff: If you enjoy working with the public and being a member of a team, working in a campground gate-office will offer you many challenges. Gate attendents take reservations, check visitors into the park and book people into their sites. If you wish to apply for a gate attendant position, you should have the ability to:

  • Communicate well with others ;
  • Work with others as a team;
  • Deal with money;
  • Be reliable;
  • Be able to follow policies and procedures;
  • Complete shift sheets;
  • Have a willingness to learn about hospitality and the tourism industry;
  • Be able to learn information about the park in order to answer questions from the public.

Canoe and Bicycle Rental: If you enjoy being close to the action, you might be looking for work in one of our rental shops. You'd be helping visitors prepare for their wheeled-adventures in the park or  illustrating some proper paddling techniques in order to ensure they have a safe, enjoyable experience. If you wish to apply for a rental attendant position, you should have the ability to:

  • Canoe proficiently;
  • Communicate well with others;
  • Work with others as a team;
  • Deal with money;
  • Be reliable;
  • Be able to follow policies and procedures;
  • Complete shift sheets;
  • Have a willingness to learn about hospitality and the tourism industry;
  • Be able to learn information about the park in order to answer questions from the public.

Maintenance: If you enjoy working outside and prefer to work independently, consider a job with the park maintenance department. As a maintenance worker, you'd be required to perform much of the upkeep around the park. If you wish to apply for a maintenance worker position, you should have the ability to:

  • Communicate with others;
  • Work with others as a team;
  • Hold a valid drivers' license;
  • Be reliable;
  • Complete strenuous physical activity;
  • Be able to follow policies and procedures;
  • Have a willingness to learn about hospitality and the tourism industry;
  • Be able to learn information about the park in order to answer questions from the public.

Natural Heritage Education (NHE): As a Naturalist, you would be interacting with the public on a regular basis, whether that be dealing with children, adults, school groups or special interest groups. You would be helping people understand the influences on Pinery's environment, so that they can appreciate and better protect their surroundings. Interpretation helps people appreciate Pinery's unique, natural environment and increases their enjoyment while in the park. Some of the special skills you must possess are:

  • Outstanding communication skills;
  • Natural history experience (biological skills, identification abilities etc.);
  • Working well with others as a team;
  • Hold a valid drivers' license;
  • Be reliable;
  • Be able to follow policies and procedures;
  • Have a willingness to learn about the hospitality and tourism industry;
  • Be able to learn information about the park in order to answer questions from and interpret to the public;
