The Spring Native Plant Sale

Categories: News

The Spring Native Plant Sale was a HUGE success! It began with a cold, windy morning but the enthusiasm and energy of our amazing volunteers soon got us all in the mood for a great event!

Gray-Yellow Coneflowers, Wild Geranium, Wild Bergamot and Wild Columbine were among the favourites of the day! Many of the trees and shrubs also got to go home with eager purchasers, to start growing in their native gardens. People who did not know much about native plants came away with a better understanding of the need to introduce these plants to this area, especially in sensitive ecosystems like the dunes and Carolinian Forest.

The raffle tickets were popular too; with fingers being crossed that they will be the eventual winners of the fantastic prizes this year! The bumble bee “stuffies” at the Nature Store table were all sold out, along with interesting books and children’s stories. There was even a stand of delicious home baked cookies which were all gone long before the event was over!

It was very rewarding to see all the smiling faces leaving with armfuls of a box of fresh, green, native plants. It made all the hard work and hours spent preparing the native plant sale in the days before, worthwhile. As always, it would not have been possible to pull of an event of this size without the help of the Ontario Parks Pinery Park staff, Friends of Pinery Park staff, Board of Directors, and the enormous group of willing volunteers who stepped up! Thank you!
